Things To Do in Rugeley

Rugeley lies on the main Stafford-Lichfield road, which leads north to the Potteries, which are well worth a visit if you have a penchant for porcelain. Stoke-on-Trent is an hour’s drive from Rugeley, or you could catch the train, which takes an extra half-hour to get there.

Rugeley has indoor and outdoor markets where you can buy locally sourced, fresh produce. The indoor market is open daily except on Monday, Wednesday and Sunday. The Charter Outdoor Market on the square is open on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. After a day browsing the markets, you can go for a delicious meal in one of the town’s historic pubs or travel a mile and a half out of town to the Red Lion that was initially a house dating back to the 1600s.

Cannock Chase Forest is virtually on your doorstep and it won’t be surprising if you choose to allot more than one day to spend in this magical woodland that has everything from a Go Ape to a dog fun activity trail. The woodland walks are extraordinary, or you can hire a bike at the cycle centre and enjoy a leisurely ride along one of the waymarked trails. Cannock Chase is home to fallow and red deer as well as muntjac. Some species are directly descended from the original herd introduced from as far back as Norman times.
If you are feeling in the city slicker mood, Manchester is only an hour away by train and the cathedral city of Lichfield is only eight minutes by car. Steeped in history, you will need a full day to take it all in. There is the Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum and Erasmus Darwin House, the stunning Georgian home of the grandfather of Charles Darwin.

If you feel energetic, you could take a leisurely walk to the town to stock up on locally sourced, fresh produce to cook back at base. You may as well as the kitchen is a home cook’s delight with a gas hob range cooker and all you need to conjure up a romantic dinner for two.

The patio is ideal for alfresco dining, where there is nothing other than bird song and the rhythmic sound of the perpetual bubbles of the luxurious, private hot tub. Indoors you have the cosy comfort of a log burning stove and the terracotta-tiled floor enhances the home from home relaxing feel.

When it is time to turn in, you can treat yourselves to a long soak in the bathroom in the freestanding, inviting tub or take a shower together as it has plenty of room for two. For “just the two of us” romantic downtime with the perfect level of privacy and calm, this charming little cottage will most certainly deliver without being too far away from local amenities should you want to venture a little further afield.
