Things To Do in Bamburgh

When you are not taking the plunge into the crystal-clear waters of the award-winning beach or simply soaking up the sun in a spot away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the sun, sea and sand seekers, Bamburgh Castle awaits. There are year-round events such as the open-air cinema in its grounds.
As the August sun sets, you will be treated to family favourites such as Mama Mia, Grease, Bohemian Rhapsody and Dirty Dancing, and in October, it’s Dracula for Halloween. For early risers who are keen to create the perfect start to their day, there are daily Pilates on the castle green atop the cliff with the sights and sounds of the sea as a backdrop and if it rains the 9.00am to 10.30am, wellbeing and vitality classes are held in the majestic King’s Hall. Even in November and December, there is back-to-back festive activity like wreath-making classes and meeting Father Christmas for the kids.

The days can be filled with beach games, swimming and walks along the shoreline. Seahouses is only a three-mile coastal walk or about four minutes by car. Cruises to the Farne Islands regularly leave from here and there is a choice of operators. There are converted lifeboats and catamarans, mostly dog-friendly, that will take you close to the edge of some of the 28 islands where you can see thousands of puffins nesting and grey seal basking on the rocks.

If you want to get even closer and experience an action activity simultaneously, then Northumberland Adventure has kayaking to Coquet Island to see the seals. An RSPB Sanctuary and Reserve is also home to hundreds of puffins roseate terns and its own permanent grey seal colony. Expect the playful seals to come up to your kayak.
