Things To Do in Lucker

If you plan to do a bit of pampering during your break then you’re in luck because the Beau Monde Spa, a short walk away, has leisure facilities that are available to guests seven days a week. With space and light in abundance combined with tranquil, turquoise waters, its 38ft indoor heated pool is perfect for a few invigorating laps or some peaceful reading loungers. It also has a steam room and jacuzzi and from Tuesday to Saturday you can book a treatment, have your hair done and even treat yourself to a St Tropez tan.

Within walking distance is the Schoolhouse Country Kitchen that serves an all-day breakfast with a great veggie option too. Up to noon there is a choice of American-style pancakes,
French crêpes or Belgian waffles. The Schoolhouse’s sumptuous afternoon tea includes sandwiches, sliders and wraps, scones, chocolate eclairs, Victoria sponge, Mille-feuille and a choice of teas and coffees. It serves light lunches from 12pm and has a kiddies’ menu, and four-legged family members are welcome.

If it’s the countryside that is your thing then you have come to the right place because a wide expanse of field just beyond the garden beckons, promising miles of glorious walking or cycling. Just eight miles inland is the spectacular Roughtin Linn waterfall that has some of the best examples of rock art in the country. There is a five-mile circular walk to the waterfall from the village of Ford that takes in wildflower meadows and woodland. The Lindisfarne causeway is only 11 miles back towards the coast and if you have enough time a visit to the Lindisfarne Castle won’t disappoint.

Last Word

From the fields with views of the Cheviot Hills right outside this immaculate holiday home to the miles of golden sand just a few miles down the road, this destination is a hard one to beat. It’s village location is an added bonus because you are not too far from the shop to stock up on provisions or the pub if you think it would be rude not to sample a local ale or two.

There’s a chance to learn how to surf; to canter along the shoreline on horseback; to visit an archipelago of islands with sea and birdlife that has David Attenborough swooning; to pay homage to Harry Potter at an ancient castle, to play a round of golf on a clifftop championship course or simply to chill out in the garden and watch the wildlife go by.

The modern eat-in kitchen is rigged to make mealtimes easy and if you are not feeling up to cooking then there is always the Schoolhouse Country Kitchen and Apple Inn gastro pub just a few minutes’ walk from the door. Who needs to fish out the passports to have a break that is going to be as enchanting, if not more, than any overseas destination?
