Things To Do in Beadnell

If you would rather spend your holiday taking it easy, then the beach can be accessed from the footpath leading down to it. This is not a hustle and bustle destination, although the main area of the bay is very popular, just a few minutes stroll beyond that, there is plenty of space. Put up the brolly and the sun loungers, unpack the picnic and bucket and spades and let the little ones explore the rock pools and paddle on the shoreline.

The village shop has a well-stocked convenience store, and the Craster Arms is a family and dog-friendly pub that serves freshly caught fish and chips and you can chill out in the beer garden with a G&T or a pint of Northumberland Gold or Farne Island real ale. With its three lime kilns that are now used to store lobster pots, the harbour has some good fishing points where you can cast off for catches that include cod, pollack, ling and mackerel.

Beadnell is the only launching point within Northumberland’s AONB for small leisure craft such as jet skis and boats for water skiing, so you can watch water sports lovers frolicking in the waves. If you have always wanted to experience catching a wave, then surf lessons take place here on the beach or five miles down the coast at Bamburgh, depending on the conditions. The beginners’ session lasts two hours is £35 for adults and £30 for children.

It is easy to explore the surrounding areas with boat trips 3.8 miles out to the Farne Islands that teem with birdlife and colonies of grey seals basking on the rocks. If you’ve always wanted to discover the delights of Lindisfarne, known as Holy Island, is about a 30-minute drive.
