Things To Do in Beadnell

It is highly likely that if the sun is shining, a good chunk of your holiday will be spent on the glorious sands of Beadnell Bay. However, there are plenty of other activities on offer along this beautiful stretch of coastline.

The walk along the coast to Seahouses is three miles, or take the four-minute drive there to book a cruise with one of the boats that leave from the harbour for the Farne Islands. There are 28 in total and many of these play hosts to puffins nesting in spring and colonies of grey seals. You might even spot a basking shark, minke whales, and schools of playful dolphins en route. The Golden Gate Farne Island Boat Trips is the only operator allowed to land on Longstone. Here you can have a guided tour of the lighthouse, home to Grace Darling, who saved nine lives by rowing out in inclement conditions. The Farne Island Sail Around is another option and although there is no landing, it is a tour around Staple, Inner Farne and Longstone Islands, taking in the route of Grace Darling’s brave life-saving efforts.

If you have a young child, then set aside a day for a visit to Seahouses’ The Bunker that has a great indoor soft play area and an 18-hole Crazy Golf course with splendid views out to sea is well worth a visit. Its newly opened 19th Hole Diner provides refreshments, everything from hearty breakfasts to light lunches.

Closer to the cottage, there is the Craster Arms a pub converted from an outlook tower where you can sample local ales such as Hadrian Border Brewery’s Tyneside Blonde, Farne Island and Northumbrian Gold. The pub welcomes children and is dog-friendly too.

Last Word

If you require that extra bit of pampering on your time away, then the calming setting of Lavender Cottage is going to set the scene perfectly. From the soft lilac hues of the lavender surrounding the alfresco dining patio to the pale grey and white shades of the interior, it is sure to provide you with a sanctuary on your seaside break.

Lavender Cottage is ideal for a young family and there is more than enough room for the three of you, including a lovely little conservatory overlooking the garden. Although you are in a quiet location, the harbour and beach are only a few minutes walk from the door. This is where you can spend time on the sand and in the sea, watch the surfers ride the swells and even do a spot of fishing for cod and mackerel.

Seahouses is just along the way that can either be accessed by a three-mile beach walk or a four-minute drive. Here you can have a fresh cod and chip dinner from Lewis’s Fish Restaurant, treat the little one to a day in The Bunkers and book a boat trip to the outlying Farne Islands. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has what it takes to make a seaside holiday one to remember.
