Things To Do in Beadnell

Beadnell Bay is rated as one of the best beaches on the Northumberland Heritage Coast and it is not far from Sea Gem’s front door. It is a glorious stretch of beach, sheltered by dunes, that goes as far as Seahouses and when you aren’t soaking up the rays on the soft sands of the bay this two-mile stretch is worthy of a walk. Your efforts will be rewarded by stunning seascapes along the way and when you reach your destination Seahouses has a harbour that is the gateway to the Farne Islands. Its 84,000 nesting puffins, kittiwakes and razorbills, lazing colonies of grey seals, and boisterous bottlenose dolphins have earned it international ecological acclaim. Boats, mostly dog friendly, regularly leave from the harbour to give passengers a bespoke Blue Planet experience.

When you’re back on terra firma The Bunkers’ 18-hole Crazy Golf beckons, especially for a young family. It’s fun for all ages no matter what the weather and comes with stunning views as far as Bamburgh Castle. A family ticket costs £10 for the day giving tots to teens a taste of the thrill of teeing off. For grown-ups there is a choice of visitor-friendly championship links courses, one in Seahorses itself and the other in the shadow of Bamburgh Castle.

Back at base the Craster Arms is likely to be your port o’ call. There is a roaring log fire in the inglenook when its chilly, and when its warm the beer garden is a perfect spot for pooch and party to soak up the sun. In the height of summer it stages “Clastonbury”, a mini-Glastonbury and there’s quiz nights every Wednesday.
