Things To Do in Pickering

If you’re from a city, you may fall under the illusion that there’s not much to do in the country. However, Pickering most certainly will prove you wrong. This vibrant market town has been established since the Norman Conquest and has a rich and colourful history.

The first thing we would recommend experiencing in Pickering is getting yourself down to the train station and hopping on board the most popular steam locomotive in the whole of the UK.

There are also plenty of local shops and eateries selling fresh and locally grown produce. Cedar Barn Farm Shop & Cafe is a great place to pick up some homegrown meat and also allows you to pick your own fruit. Or, if you’re fancying a traditional tray of fish and chips, why not head on down to Potter Hill Fishers to treat yourself to some from this family-owned gem of Pickering.

And after a long day, why not enjoy a local ale down at the Sun Inn. It boasts a spacious garden, is host to music and quiz nights, and sells some excellent local ales and meals. All in all, as you can see, there are plenty of things to do in Pickering for everyone.

Last Word

Dovecote does include everything that you could want from a country trip here in the UK. It’s the home-from-home that everyone has always envisioned when planning a trip into the countryside. It is perfect for a small family or a group of friends who want a getaway that is quiet and peaceful with stunning views and provides guests with plenty of activities to experience.

The lodge owners are also pet friendly which means you can take your four-legged friend along with you to share the experience. With the enclosed garden to the rear, you can let your pet run around to its heart’s content without having to worry about it getting out. Or, the nearby national park also gives you plenty of nature trails to traverse and explore with your pet.

If you want an adventure that is a bit further afield, there are also plenty of places on the coast that you can visit, including Scarborough, which boasts its beach and plenty of fun for all the family. Don’t forget the picturesque fishing village of Whitby, where you can enjoy the most delicious freshly caught fish.
