Things To Do in Filey

Filey and its surroundings have lots to entertain a family group, especially one which enjoys fresh air and exercise. Take a short walk to the beach, which stretches for a couple of miles up to Filey, and is all golden sand, unlike the pebbles and shingle of beaches in other parts of the country. You’ll know you’ve reached Filey by the two promenades for which the town is famous, and from here, you can see the fishing boats launching and being brought in.

Take a walk into Filey itself, exploring the narrow streets and lanes, after having some superb fish and chips. Visit one of the dozens of independent shops, stock up on preserves and locally produced food, or treat yourself to something nice to take home. For exercise, try the Brigg, a long spit of land 60 feet high stretching out to sea, or Filey Brigg Country park at its entrance. Take the family and dog around the elegant Crescent Gardens and Glen Gardens, or head out on the Scarborough Road to dog-friendly Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park.

More serious birdwatchers should visit RSPB Bempton Cliffs, which has excellent views of colonies of puffins, guillemots and many other sea birds. Carry on southwards and take in the panorama from Flamborough Head, and then carry on into Bridlington. Here is a traditional English seaside resort experience, with plenty of ice cream and rock, plus miles of beach stretching southwards. Travel west towards Driffield, and soak in the unspoilt landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, home to beautiful villages and stunning landscapes.

Last Word

This is a unique holiday home for a family, group of friends or colleagues, including a beloved pooch, both as a great place to stay in its own right and for its access to a very special part of the English coast and countryside. The house has excellent open plan access and wooden flooring, so no need to worry about muddy foot or paw prints, while the furnishing, styling, kitchen and dining facilities are all of the highest standard. On-site, there’s plenty of room to roam, and even fishing lakes for keen anglers, plus a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and beauty treatments for those who’d appreciate them on holiday.

The local landscape combines coast and country perfectly, and all your group will appreciate the long, sandy beaches with fresh, clean air to fill the lungs. Nature lovers are sure to appreciate the birdwatching opportunities, which can be enjoyed at an RSPB managed site or just by walking along the cliffs. Filey has plenty to enjoy for a morning or afternoon out, with a character you won’t find in many seaside towns. There are the bigger resorts of Scarborough and Bridlington a short drive away, and in between is the stunning beauty of the rarely talked about Yorkshire Wolds, where you can escape from the modern world.
