Things To Do in Lebberston
The countryside is literally outside your front door and you need to look out for the resident barn owl at dusk. There are cows in the meadow and the heather moorland of the North Yorkshire Moors stretches beyond, making it hard to believe that you are only two miles from the nearest beach.
The quaint village of Lebberston has a Spar shop and filling station and is just 0.5 miles away. The real prize in the area is the stretch of coastline that incorporates sandy beaches and seaside towns with promenades. Take a leisurely stroll two miles to Cayton Bay, one of Yorkshire’s top beaches. It has a magnificent wide sweeping bay, is dog-friendly all year round and has an affordable car park if you want to conserve your energy by driving instead of walking. It is regularly awarded the ENCAMS Seaside seal of approval and flies the distinctive blue and yellow flag. It is a firm favourite with surfers, birdwatchers and fossil hunters and is also Marine Conservation Society Recommended, one of only 105 in the UK.
Filey, a typical Yorkshire seaside town with its Victorian promenade, is a mile further down the road and has a great beach with rock pools and a sculpture trail. The Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park is fascinating for its sectioned gardens, including The Secret Garden, home to a scurry of energetic Eastern chipmunks. It has a café, playpark and gift shop and is dog-friendly throughout, with complimentary poo bags at reception.
This is a countryside location, remote enough to feel that you are really able to get away from it all, but not too far from some stunning beaches and the hustle and bustle of Scarborough and Filey. After a day of sun, sea and sand, you can return to this bijou bolthole and soak up nature at its best. With the hoot of the resident barn owl at sunset, you can clink your glasses of bubbly to an area that has it all.
This is a part of the world rich in national history and nature. Other than the seaside town destinations, there is, of course, the jewel in East Riding’s crown – Flamborough Head. From its caves and sea arches, it teems with seabirds such as puffins. The clifftops are smothered with Red Campion and the palest of pink Sea Thrift sway in the wind.
Romantic retreat it is for sure, but if you have a mini addition to your family, then the owners are only too happy to provide a travel cot and highchair. Not forgetting your fur babies because they will be in their element here, with plenty of space in the paddock adjoining the cottage and a place for them to chill in the enclosed courtyard.
