Things To Do in The Bay

What is so great about The Bay is that there are activities and entertainment on every turn and there is something for everyone. The younger set can practice their golf skills on the putting course, the lads can enjoy a pint at The John Paul Jones and the girls can have a treatment day at the Beauty Box. For a fee you can have a lesson in activities such as snorkelling and archery.

The lakes with moorhens and ducks bobbing about have cycle and footpaths that are abutted by meadowland where you can see butterflies and bumble bees. This part of Yorkshire is particularly rich in birdlife and if you are interested it a bit of twitching then you have certainly come to the right place. The Filey Bird Observatory Group has a number of sites such as Parish Wood where you can see Great Spotted woodpeckers and pied and spotted flycatchers. It is only a 20-minute walk from Filey Railway Station and is worth a gander if you have brought your binoculars with you. A highlight of the coast is RSPB Bempton Cliffs, home to one of the UK’s top wildlife spectacles. Around half a million seabirds gather here between March and October to raise their chicks on towering chalk cliffs that rise up over the sea. From puffins to guillemots on the rock faces to meadow pipits, skylarks and linnets in the fields and trees, it is guaranteed to fascinate. There is a visitor centre, a car park, toilets and café on location and it is only 7.5miles from The Bay.

Hunmanby Gap is accessed by a private pathway right down to this unspoilt stretch of beach. It is a 15-minute amble and is dog friendly all year round. The shallow rock pools are perfect for tots because the water is warmer and calmer than the sea. Take the 40-minute walk along the coast to the charming seaside town of Filey with its Victorian promenades and ornamental parks.

Last Word

The developers of The Bay have left no pebble unturned to provide guests with a holiday that is jam-packed with activities in well-presented facilities. From the heated indoor pool to the fishing lakes, it has everything you need on site.

An added bonus is its close proximity to a beach that rivals those of Spain and Portugal during the warmer months. One day you can be enjoying a sumptuous Sunday lunch at the pub on site, the next enjoying a picnic beside tranquil lakes backed by meadowland and on another a day out on the golden sands of Hunmanby Gap.

Maris Cottage’s modern interior is the cherry on top.
