Things To Do in Filey

Take the 15-minute stroll to Filey’s Blue Flag beach that stretches for miles. It is so impressive it is one of the top 20 beaches in Europe and scooped the Sunday Times newspaper’s Britain’s Best Beach award 2018. There is plenty of space for hours of sun, sea and sand. Filey Brigg, a mile from the main beach, is ideal for families with toddlers; there is plenty of sea life and rock pools that are ideal for paddling.

Before setting off for a day of fun and frolics, you could treat everyone to a quality full English at the Lighthouse Tearoom and Coffee House on Bella Vue Street. This quaint little tearoom also serves breakfast crumpets and hot chocolates. To discover the heart of this charming seaside town, download its Mystery Treasure Trail map that comes with tantalising clues.

The trail, brilliant for young enquiring minds, should take about two hours to crack the case. It starts at the Glen and Crescent garden, taking the sleuths through alleys, churchyards and corners that are so tucked away you would never have found them on your own. It is a great family activity, and you could end the day with a picnic or a fish and chip takeaway in the promenade park, which has an old-fashioned bandstand and life-size sculptures by local artists.

A mile from the town centre is Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park, which will take up most of the day entertaining both young and old. It abuts the Filey Nature Reserve, and other than the meerkats, wallabies, and Shetland ponies, it has a beautiful nature trail with a willow tunnel.

You are welcome to bring your picnic to enjoy at one of the tables in the wildlife meadow. Don’t miss the Secret Garden, where a stream babbles amidst lush ferns. From the decking, you can look up as the scurry of chipmunks frolic in the tunnels overhead.

Last Word

This holiday home might be in a quiet location off the main drag, but it is only a few minutes walk to where all the action is. Besides its arcades and crazy golf are attractions that uphold the heritage of the North Yorkshire coast, such as the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery that offers daily tours revealing how this, the first Yorkshire single malt, is created from field to bottle.

Puffin House’s accommodation allows ample space for everyone with its separate dining room, a games room for the kids, and a plush sitting room for the grown-ups. Unlike many seaside villas, this one has a sunny courtyard, great for alfresco dining.

Here you can spend countless days just exploring the coastline, which will keep everyone active and happy. This part of England is famous for its birdlife, so don’t forget to pack binoculars. This delightful Victorian seaside destination is where you should be heading for a holiday that has something for everyone.
