Things To Do in Filey

The holiday site has plenty of indoor facilities, including a heated swimming pool and a kids’ pool, if the weather turns bad. Also on site are fishing lakes and a picnic area, so humans and dog alike can stretch their legs and maybe have a quick drink in the onsite pub or stock up on essentials before heading out.

Enjoy the five miles of sandy beach, which starts just below the site, and head north towards Filey, maybe taking in Filey Brigg, a 20-metre high promontory that protects the bay.

Back towards Filey itself, stroll down one of the two promenades, and maybe take in the brass band which plays halfway down, or try some crazy golf, a stick of rock or some chips with freshly caught North Sea fish.

Head up into Filey town, and explore the narrow lanes on the way to Parish Wood or Filey Dams Nature Reserve. Here you’ll find a vast range of native and migratory birdlife, from flycatchers to sparrow hawks. For expert bird watchers, the RSPB site to the south at Bempton Cliffs is an absolute must.

Scarborough is a short drive to the north and Bridlington to the south for a traditional British seaside day out. Scarborough has some very modern attractions, including the unique Alpamare Waterpark, which younger visitors, in particular, will love.

To the west of Filey is the Yorkshire Wolds, a hidden gem of the East Riding of Yorkshire, home to unspoilt villages and calm like nowhere else in England.

Last Word

This nautical-themed holiday lodge is a special place for a family or small group of friends to enjoy a very special part of England, which is as yet not as heavily visited as other coastal destinations. As a private site, it has lots to offer people of all ages, as well as a well-behaved dog. From the on-site fishing lakes to the indoor pools, sauna and games room, any party will have plenty to stay occupied no matter the weather. Of course, it is the sandy beaches that attract people, and one of these is visible from the raised decking, begging to be explored.

Whether sticking to the shoreline or heading further afield along the headlands, bird watchers, in particular, will love the huge array of species all along the coast here. As well as this, more human pursuits are on hand in Filey, which is both a coastal resort and a thriving town where you can buy anything you need and enjoy some special local hospitality.

Also nearby are the Wolds, a part of Yorkshire which remains largely untouched over hundreds of years. If you’ve had enough of coastal attractions, this special part of the countryside will stay with you forever. The whole package adds up to an exceptional holiday.
