Things To Do in Filey

The lodge is part of a private holiday village, which has plenty to offer itself. Take a walk to its centre with the dog and enjoy the lakes and picnic area, try a game of tennis or a spot of fishing. For keen cyclists, bike hire is available; for those looking to relax, try the sauna or a dip in the swimming pool. A short walk from the complex is the North Sea coast, home of sandy beaches human and canine guests will love. Take a walk to the north and discover Filey, with its beach and two promenades to enjoy.

Spend a morning or afternoon in the town, soaking up the atmosphere of a working fishing port, and watch the cobles (fishing boats) come in on the cobbled landing. Take the dog up the narrow winding ginnels (lanes) and pop into one of the independent shops and eateries, not least some superb fish and chips. Head out along Filey Brigg, a 60-foot high sliver of land stretching out to sea and admire the panoramic views.

Nature lovers will want to visit Bempton Cliffs nature reserve, an RSPB site located up high and surrounded by rare birdlife. Puffins can be seen at the right time of year, and there are impressive colonies of gannets and guillemots all year round. Take a drive westwards into the Yorkshire Wolds, stop in one of the unspoilt rural villages, or visit the stately homes at Sledmere House and Burton Agnes Hall.

Last Word

This lodge and its surroundings are packed to the brim with activities for a small family or group of friends, including a four-legged one, to fill the days with fun. From the on-site swimming pool, lakes and tennis court to the sauna and steam room, all tastes, genders and ages are catered for, all away from the public gaze. As the name suggests, the setting is serene, cut off from the busy outside world, and yet just a short walk away from the best that the North Yorkshire coast has to offer.

The miles of sandy beaches up and down the coast, with their sea life and rock pools, are begging to be explored, all the while breathing in the lovely clean sea air. The clifftops nearby will delight bird watchers and nature lovers, and the panoramic views are sure to make some great pictures to show the world.

Filey itself is also a sightseers paradise, while also being a working fishing port, so the fish and chips could not be fresher. The Yorkshire Wolds are only a short drive away, with miles of country walks to be enjoyed and the promise of a charming village not far away to refuel some great local food and drink. Whether private or public, this really is a serene seaside holiday home.
