This cosy cottage is ideal for a family who want to discover the magic of the mythical Isle of Skye that starts right outside the door, the views promising miles and miles of mountain and moorland walks and strolls on the water’s edge.

About Ambers Cottage

A delightful single storey renovated and refurbished cottage sleeps four in its two bedrooms, a double and a twin. The double benefits from a fitted mirrored sliding wardrobe and there is a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower.

The sitting room has outstanding views of the bay and has a coal effect stove. The well-equipped kitchen has a washing machine, a gas hob and electric oven and a dining table and chairs. There is a porch for muddy boots and wet coats.

Outside there is lots of places for the pooches to play and the garden slopes and there is ample off-road parking.

Things To Do in Isle of Skye

Staffin Bay is a mere five-minute stroll from the cottage. It is surrounded by rugged scenery that includes amazing sea views and the Quiraing Peak as a backdrop. The beach, mostly sand, is ideal for families because of sheltered position. The sand has a is on the northeast coast of the Trotternish peninsula on the beautiful Isle of Skye. Staffin Bay is close to Kilt Rock and the cascading Mealt Falls.

In Staffin there is the Hungry Gull, a convenient dine in or drive-thru that has some great vegan options such as Haggis Pekora with a yoghurt, mint and sweet chilli dip and tofu fish and chips. For meat-lovers there is the mouth-watering 10-hour slow cooked brisket of beef bun with BBQ sauce and an apple and mustard slaw. Another innovative eatery is the Columba 1400, a local initiative in the community centre with its large bay windows looking out over the sea. Here trainee cooks present dishes such as hot salmon and potato salad and haggis toasties, as well as a few vegan and vegetarian options.

Last Word

Although it is only 17 miles across the island to the main town of Portree, there is really no need to travel by car much further after you have unpacked and destressed at Amber Cottage. The beach is a five-minute stroll, as are the shops, takeaways and restaurant. Rankins in Uig, just under 10 miles from Staffin, has everything you need to stock up for your time away. It unpackaged facility is popular and has a selection of food and household refills so don’t forget to bring your own container.

The cottage kitchen is well-equipped for you to prepare meals and its gas hob makes cooking that much more pleasurable. Conveniently the accommodation is all on one level with the two bedrooms leading off the sitting room. Once you’ve settled in start planning to take up the challenge of a hike up to Quiraing Peak that, although tough-going in places, will be worth the effort because the views from here are unsurpassed.
