Things To Do in Muir of Ord

On the outskirts of a quintessential Scottish village, the house is in a prime location for shooting and fishing on the River Connon and at one of the nearby shooting estates, such as Scatwell House that is within walking distance. Here, you can easily obtain a permit to fish for sea trout, brown trout and salmon from April to the end of September. For grouse, pheasant, partridge, hare and hound shooting, the estate is surrounded by glens and hills where the game is raised in open spaces.

If you are a golf enthusiast, you won’t be disappointed because the Muir of Ord Golf Course is just down the road. You can book a tee time on this famous 18-hold heathland course designed by James Baird in the late 1700s. It has several opens’ tournaments during the summer, such as the Scottish Left-Handed Championships, which non-members are welcome to enter.

The delightful town of Beauly is just 2.5 miles away, where you can buy local produce such as haggis for the table and tartan and tweeds for your trips out. For those who’d prefer scenery to shopping, then you are in the right place because this area, known by locals as the Black Isle, has walking routes and cycling trails through the glens and dales of the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve. A little further afield is Inverness, which is only 13 miles away, a mere pedal and a push for keen cyclists and a twenty-minute drive by car.

Last Word

This is a part of the Highlands that has less tourist-tread than the rest, making this luxury lodge with enough room for a small friends’ reunion or a large family gathering, a place where it’s all about quality time and unwinding.

The outdoor area is geared towards entertaining and the eat-in country kitchen is equipped to cope with preparing meals for eight hungry mouths easily. There is also plenty of outdoor space for alfresco dining where you will look out over an established garden, straight from Burns’ poem. The hot tub is tucked away to the side but still has views of the countryside that rolls beyond the garden’s dry-stone wall.

A tour of the Glen Ord Distillery, just half a mile out of the village, is recommended, although you might want to consider an option closer to home. The burn that makes the single malt whisky runs at the bottom of the garden, and your hosts are only too happy to organise a private whisky tasting on request. Whatever your pleasure, there is a lot of it to be had in this Highland hideaway where, both indoors and out, you are going to be in for a treat.
