Blue Pool. The enchanting Blue Pool is an extraordinary attraction in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck. It is set in tranquil woodland between Wareham and Corfe Castle. This stunning feature started as a clay pit in the 17th century. The microscopic particles of the clay give the pool its constantly changing colours from greys to greens to blues. There are walks around the lakes and in the woodlands. The pool is also home to grey squirrels, rabbits and badgers. The woodland is filled with birdsong which adds to the peaceful atmosphere. Christchurch Castle is the remains of Norman Motte and Bailey castle set overlooking the town and River Avon below. The site contains “Constables House”, a rare example of an early 12th-century Norman dwelling.
The Norman castle was originally built to protect the town and river access to Wessex. The castle itself sits within the Saxon fort walls that were used to build the castle motte. A community flourished during the 12th century in and around the castle. What is left makes for an interesting walk for you and your dog.
