Things To Do in Constantine
Very much a hidden gem of a village in a relatively unknown part of Cornwall, Constantine is an ideal place to start exploring the locale with a partner and perhaps an added guest, not forgetting your four-legged friend. Unlike a lot of villages, here you’ll find a lovely church, well-used pub, and shops selling local produce. Try a pint of cider made the traditional way or the world-famous scones with clotted cream.
Constantine lies in the valley of the Helford River, and upriver to the west lies Helston, a major town with all the supermarkets you could want, plus the local landmarks of Grylls Monument, which dominates the town. On the outskirts of Helston is Flambards Theme Park, which packs many rides in and is perfect for those with a small family. To the north is Poldark Mine and the Cornish Heritage Collection, which includes underground tours in one of the hundreds of tin mines for which Cornwall was once renowned.
Northeast of Constantine and only a 20-minute drive lies Falmouth, overlooking some stunning estuaries, including Carrick Roads. There are some great beaches to explore around Falmouth, the most famous being Swanpool and Gyllyngvase. Don’t miss the chance to visit the National Maritime Museum Cornwall to glimpse into the county’s seafaring past and Pendennis Castle, a great morning or afternoon out, with unrivalled panoramic views.
Cornwall continues to be a top-rated destination for both homeowners and visitors. As such, some parts of the county are losing their traditional feel, and the reason people love it so much. Constantine is different, at least for the moment. The Chalet itself is an extremely clever use of space, being both detached from and part of the owner’s own home. There’s even a red telephone box as part of the garden fence, just to make visitors feel relaxed and at home. Constantine itself is a short walk away and offers a friendly pint or the chance to enjoy some locally sourced foodstuffs.
Enjoy the Lizard Peninsula and Heritage Coast delights, which covers all of this southern tip of Cornwall, the most southerly point of Great Britain. The climate here is mainly continental, apart from the winds which whip in from the Atlantic at certain times of the year. The coastline includes some fantastic walks, which a couple and high energy dog will love all year round.
After taking in some health and heritage, visit Falmouth for the best in fresh fish and local dining while taking in the views across the bay and into the English Channel. Head back home and enjoy the evenings in your own private garden, including a hot tub t round off another perfect, Cornish day.
