Gorgeous, historic Lyme Regis really isn't far from Axminster, meaning you'll only need to grab a local bus service or take a short drive towards some of the best-loved beaches in the county. Lyme Regis has a variety of different dog-friendly beaches for you to enjoy.

This seaside town is famous for its movie and literary connections, and there are fantastic road links nearby to all kinds of Devonshire country and coastal trails.

The East Devon Jurassic Coast

In our collective opinion, you really cannot head down to enjoy the best of Devon and Dorset without checking out the Jurassic Coast. This ancient stretch of rugged coastline encompasses a huge variety of coastal towns and villages, with Axminster being just one of them.

The views across the Jurassic Coast are truly magnificent, and you'll be able to take your dog for all kinds of interesting walks. Finding holiday cottages near here shouldn't be too tricky.

The Best Pet Friendly Holiday Cottages in Axminster

We love Axminster – and the variety of dog-friendly holiday cottages down here really is inspiring. As you can see from the above, you could find yourself a spot in a delightful village lying just short of the Jurassic Coast, a modern apartment with a shower room and hot tub, or a rustic barn conversion just around the corner from a welcoming local pub. Set up your perfect break your way!

As above, there are some wonderful areas of natural beauty, beach strolls and heritage scenes for you to take in. If you prefer a livelier seaside experience, Lyme Regis has it all – and there are bound to be plenty more dog-friendly cottages near the sea, too.

About Holidays In Axminster With Dogs

If you’ve never explored the wider East Devon district before, you are in for a treat. Axminster offers a lovely warm welcome to some of the best views and countryside walks across Devonshire, with a market town scene and superb natural beauty blanketing its laid-back appeal. Most holidays down here will centre around the brilliant rugged coastline and the charming chocolate box atmosphere. However, we really wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to hunt down a hot tub or two.

Based around the River Axe, the area is historically important for its carpet industry – it’s true! What’s more, there is clear evidence of the ancient heritage everywhere you walk – from the Minster to the charming post office buildings, the town mill and beyond. Axminster is also very well connected, not only to the stunning countryside but also to nearby cities. If you’d like to explore Exeter, for example, it’s only a short drive or rail journey away.

Dog lovers will adore exploring the quiet country lanes and riverside walks here, with quaint and idyllic village spots scattered across the way. It shouldn’t be too tricky for you to hunt down a charming Victorian cottage or an East Devon district barn conversion to enjoy with your pets, either. Holidays down in Axminster and its idyllic rural setting are always likely to breathe a sense of calm into an otherwise frantic lifestyle!

There are more than one or two delightful properties down in Axminster worth considering. Comfortable holiday accommodation in this corner of Devonshire should combine mod cons and facilities with that rustic, traditional aesthetic. There are varied river cottage locations, holiday cottages with gardens and hot tub facilities, manor house facades and more. Honestly – the selection of properties listed above really is the tip of the iceberg. We encourage you to get exploring to find your own hideaway!

The Last Word

Axminster may not be the first holiday destination people think of when it comes to the Devonshire coast. However, it proves to be an amazing base that’s well worth exploring.
