This dog friendly retreat is situated on grounds with two other holiday cottages that share an outdoor swimming pool, patio area and large garden.

The River Nene flows by at the end of the garden making for excellent fishing provided you have a license. It is unfenced so doggies must be supervised.

About Barley Cottage

The two bedrooms both sport double beds allowing for up to four guests and one pet. The cottage has exposed beams throughout, including bedrooms.

Open plan living room and dining area with fully equipped modern farmhouse kitchen. Open fireplace in the lounge for those chilly evenings.

Furnished patio area, great for alfresco dining or evening sundowners. The large shared pool is open from May through to September.

Things To Do in Water Newton, Peterborough

The surrounding countryside is perfect for taking the dog for long and serene walks as well as provide some more challenging rambles. There are opportunities for excellent cycling and horse riding nearby as well as playing a few holes of golf at one of the excellent courses.

A short drive away takes you to Rutland Waters and Ferry Meadows, both renowned for water sports and aquatic activities. For locomotive enthusiasts, the Nene Valley Steam Railway is just three miles from the cottage. One of the great Elizabethan houses, Burghley House, with its grand architecture and Gardens of Surprise is a short 10 mile drive away and well worth a visit.

The historic towns of Peterborough and Stamford are close by, offering great shopping and a variety of restaurants, cafes and pubs to enjoy. Oundle, Fotheringhay and uppingham are not far either and are steeped in history and culture. Enjoy the eclectic mix of antique shops, pubs and restaurants available in these idyllic little towns.

A great day out for kids and adults alike is Sacrewell Farm Park, a Heritage farm with a wide variety of farm animals to pet and feed. The mighty Shire horses are a big draw, as are the llamas and cute little Shetland ponies. From pigs to goats and everything in between, you’ll learn a lot about farm life as will your puppy because dogs on leashes are catered for with water bowls on request at reception.

If you are in the mood for something closer to Barley cottage, there is a restaurant under two miles away and a pub a little further on. The local shop is not far either if you need to stock up on essentials.

Barley Cottage is situated in the ideal place for accessing so many different activities in the surrounding area, you will be hard pressed to fit them all in during your stay.

From the great fun to be had on the River Nene and accompanying waters, to the natural beauty of the rambling and cycling trails that weave through the area, there is plenty of adventure to be had here.

Those looking for more of a relaxing retreat, why not kick back on the patio following a gentle swim in the pool and huddle around the fireplace after a hearty home cooked dinner? You are free to do as you see fit in this picture perfect cottage.
