Things To Do in Downham
A trip to the university city of Cambridge has to be on the agenda for a stay at Sedge Lodge. Take your pooch along to enjoy the many guided walking tours of the city as you learn about its history, and of course the university itself.
Visit the university’s Fitzwilliam Museum to see its world-renowned art collection and antiquities collected over the centuries from many different cultures and parts of the world.
For 20th century art, pre-book a free ticket for the fixed time tours at Kettle’s Yard which has sculpture trails, 20th century artwork and several art galleries to enjoy.
Enjoy a punt on the River Cam and take some photos of you and your family at some of the famous locations you will probably recognise from TV and films, such as Grantchester, The Crown and The Theory of Everything.
For a pleasant walk with a rewarding cup of tea at the end of it, take a walk to the village of Grantchester, two miles from Cambridge city centre for a cuppa at the Orchard Tea Garden, once frequented by the likes of Virginia Woolf and Rupert Brooke.
Take a walk on the beach as your dog scuttles off to explore the sand and sea at the classic Victorian seaside town of Hunstanton on the Norfolk coast, less than an hour from the lodge.
Dating back to 1846 as a seaside resort, there are quaint tearooms and coffee shops to enjoy a delicious slice of cake. A stroll on the beach will give you the chance to see the unique striped cliffs of Hunstanton and to explore the rock pools along the shoreline.
Staying true to its Victorian seaside town roots, the town still has beach front amusements, a fun fair, fabulous gardens and parks for walking in with your canine friend and bandstands with concerts at certain times of the year.
Train fans will love a trip on the Tractor Train in summer for a view of the seafront without the effort.
Sedge Lodge Wood Fen Lodges in Little Downham is a fabulous choice for exploring the wildlife and beaches of Norfolk whilst always being within easy reach of the city.
From cups of tea in historic tea rooms in Grantchester to a walk on a beach that takes your breath away at Hunstanton or walking tours and boating on the River Cam, there is a wide choice of things to do in the area.
Back at the lodge, relax in the comfortable living room or on the patio, with games in the garden or a barbecue.
On cooler evenings light the wood burner to keep the room toasty and enjoy good food and conversation in the company of your loved one, with your dog no doubt occupying the cosiest spot in the house – the sofa or next to the wood burner.
