The immediate surrounds of Grove Wood Cottage offer abundant opportunities for you to walk your pooches through the open fields, woodland and along the riverside. Cycling is also a great option to experience the landscape and if it is wildlife you are after, the area is teeming with birds and other fauna.
he cottage is near the coastal town of Burnham-on-Crouch which has some stunning coastal walks and cliffsides packed with fossils for you to discover. The town itself is a yachting hub and is host to the international ‘Burnham Week’ competition.
There are some top notch fish and chip shops, restaurants and pubs in town that are sure to satisfy your palate. If you are interested in trains of a bygone era, there is a working steam railway in the area that runs regularly.
The local golf course is a great way to enjoy a nice walk, if you are that way inclined but for a more modern take on the sport, there is also a frisbee disc golf course as well (unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed to play along for obvious reasons).
You can cross the River Crouch from Burnham to Wallasea Island by guided ferry where you can find out more about the river and coastal towns in the area from the informative and friendly skipper. If you don’t want to travel too far from the cottage, you can try your hand at fishing nearby for a small fee, provided you have a fishing license.
The local shop is two miles away if you are in need of essentials, as is the local pub and restaurant if you looking for some hearty grub after a day rambling up and down the coast.
