The sandy beaches of Holland-on-Sea are a mere 300 metres away and make for a wonderful stroll with your partner in the sea air. Dogs aren’t allowed to roam the beaches from spring to autumn but the promenade is ideal for all three of you to wander along the coastline, resting along the way at a bench and drinking in the lovely views over the water.
Clacton-on-Sea is only two miles from the cottage and is known for its prestigious pier and swimming beaches. You can learn a lot about the sea and coastal life at the aquarium or you could take in a play at the historic Princes Theatre and West Cliff Theatre. There is great shopping at Clacton Shopping Village as well as bountiful fish and chip shops, cafes and restaurants.
South of Clacton is Jaywick Martello tower that was built in 1809 as a defense against possible French invasion by sea. There are art exhibitions, live music and cultural experiences hosted in the tower on a regular basis.
On the northern side of the cottage lies Frinton-on-Sea, an unspoiled seaside town that still holds onto the charm of its past. Its white sandy beaches are perfect for a beach walk or you could follow the promenade and admire the original style beach huts.
Walton-on-Naze is further north and is a prime location for fossil hunting amongst the rocky cliffs. If you want to stay closer to the cottage, Holland-on-Sea has some great fish and chip shops, restaurants and pubs within a mile. The local shops are close by and should provide you with any essential items you might need.
