Things To Do in Welton le Wold, Nr Louth
Bluestone Cottage is in Welton-le-Wold, a medieval village mentioned in the Domesday Book. It’s in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding National Beauty where visitors enjoy walks through rolling countryside.
Louth is just 4 miles from Welton le Wold and is a busy market town boasting a grand church that dominates the skyline. The Louth Art Trail celebrates the town’s culture and heritage using public art. The trail guides visitors to the canal, town centre and fields.
The museum displays exhibits of local interest, and the antique centre has 2 floors of collectibles and vintage items for sale. The bustling town of Horncastle can be reached in 20 minutes. Part of a Roman wall can still be seen here, and it goes through the inside of the local library building. There’s a market in Horncastle every Thursday and Saturday if you enjoy picking up a bargain.
Legbourne Wood is also near Leath and is an area protected by the Wildlife Trust. The main trail is an old railway track that leads walkers through ancient areas of woodland. Mablethorpe, on the coast, is a 20 minute drive from Bluestone Cottage. It’s a traditional seaside resort with pubs, restaurants and amusements. There is a Seal Sanctuary here where you see these mammals eating fish at feeding time, and an aqua park the whole family can enjoy.
Saltfleetby Theddlethope Nature Reserve is the nearest dog friendly beach to Louth. It’s a 25-minute drive away, and the family pooch is welcome to play here all year around. Surrounded by salt marshes and mudflats its an unspoilt area where you can walk for miles. It’s always quiet here, a real get-back-to-nature spot.
The countryside around Leath in the Lincolnshire Wolds is as pretty as a picture. The rolling hills crossed with peaceful walking paths are perfect for rambles with the dog.
As your four-legged friends are welcome at Bluestone Cottage, this is the ideal place to stay. In warmer weather you can all sit outside together in the enclosed and private garden. And when the weather turns chilly, light up the log burner and cosy up in front of the fire.
