Things To Do in South Willingham
Sitting on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), a timeless thatched and detached English country cottage.
Escape the fumes and stress of the city at this superb rural retreat, which is also halfway between the cathedral city of Lincoln and the seaside resort of Skegness.
Doggie walks start right from the doorstep, with the Wolds AONB literally across Hainton Road and up Blacksmiths Lane. A short walk up Hainton Road takes you to the local pub, which has outdoor seating and a casual atmosphere, perfect for giving your pooches a drink of water and planning the day ahead.
Just around the corner is St. Mary’s Church, Hainton, a lovely example of Norman architecture and typical of this part of England.
Market Rasen is just to the north west, either a good doggie walk or a short drive away. Famous for its racecourse, the town also has much to offer visitors of all tastes.
There’s an adventure park in the pine woods just to the east of the centre, for anyone looking for a thrill. Market Rasen is on the mainline rail network, with links north to Humberside and south west to Lincoln.
The Lincolnshire Wolds is a huge area of raised land which overlooks the low, flat expanse of farmland all around. Here you’ll find peaceful, pooch friendly paths, plus cycle tracks and bridleways covering hundreds of square miles. Looking east from the AONB on a clear day, you can see the North Sea.
Also at the Wolds’ eastern edge is the Lincolnshire town of Louth. Just a 15 minute drive from South Willingham, this hidden gem is well worth a visit.
Louth has three markets every week, crammed with local produce from the hundreds of local farms. The town is also an example of the very best in Georgian architecture and street design.
The Thatch is perfectly named, as a traditional English thatched cottage which combines its original features like beams with stylish interior refurbishments.
Take your family, friends or colleagues, plus one or two four legged companions, and enjoy the heart of unspoilt eastern England.
Great days out start right at your front gate, with the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB across the road, and a dog friendly country pub a short walk away. Take in Market Rasen, a thriving town with everything you need, and especially buzzing on race days.
Spend the day on the Wolds, enjoying the scenery and walks with your canine companions. Visit the charming Georgian market town of Louth, or travel further and see Lincoln or Skegness. Come back to your own thatched cottage and relax in front of the fire with pooch.
