Things To Do in Dereham
Dumpling Green is a sleepy village on the edge of Dereham. There is plenty to do in this area of Norfolk, and with the coast just 40 minutes away, you can be beside the sea on no time.
Dereham is a town in the heart of Norfolk where the streets are filled with market stalls every Friday and Tuesday. The oldest building in the town is Bishop Bonner’s Cottage which is now a museum with a twisted staircase and sloping, beamed ceilings.
St Withburga’s Well is nearby, the story says that water sprung from the place when the saint’s bones were removed.
Dereham is also home to the Mid-Norfolk Railway that operates an 11-mile heritage steam train track to Wymondham. Doggies are allowed on board too. They also have events here like jazz evenings and ale-tasting days that are fun to book.
Wroxam, in the Norfolk Broads, is just 17 miles away. You can hire day cruisers from here to explore the waters, or simply sit beside the broads and watch the ducks and swans. The city of Norwich, boasting a castle, a cathedral, streets of shops and a choice of restaurants, is a 30-minute drive away too.
For a large cottage in a delightful village, Maytree has all the ingredients. The 4 bedrooms are light and airy, the kitchen is fully equipped and the living room has beams and a fireplace.
The added bonus here is a sunny conservatory large enough for 10 people to sit in comfort and enjoy each others company.
Explore the pretty countryside that’s all around, and venture to Wroxham to see the spectacular Broads. And if you fancy some time on the sandy beaches of North Norfolk, you can be there in just 45 minutes.
