Briston is a small village with a couple of traditional pubs, a post office and a convenience store. The nearest large town is Holt 6 miles away – the fine Georgian buildings give this place an elegant air. There are antique shops, art galleries, old book stores and tea rooms along the streets.
A 13th-century church can be found along a leafy avenue – to make sure visitors see all the sights there’s a marked ‘Owl’ trail around the town. Just outside of the town is Holt Country Park – an area of woodland with pathways, a visitor centre, toilets and a delightful tea hut with seating.
At Blakeney, there’s a charming village with flint-built homes, gift shops, art galleries and a selection of tea room. Several of the pubs here serve traditional dishes and there is an assortment of cafes too.
The nature reserve is a popular place to visit, it’s home to grey seals and migratory birds. Blakeney Point is inhabited by a huge colony of seals and in the winter months new pups are born on the sands.
To see these fine animals in their natural environment take a guided boat trip from the nature reserve. Dogs are permitted on the boats too so you can all enjoy the day together.
Cromer is a traditional seaside town with a Victorian pier, a lighthouse, sandy beach and bustling high street. Families have been coming here for generations to enjoy a day by the sea.
Further along the North Norfolk coast is another favourite town – Wells-next-the-Sea. This popular place has a working harbour, miles of beaches, colourful beach huts and collection of artisan shops.
It’s a great place to go crabbing and you can walk under the pine trees along the back of the beach too.
