Things To Do in Horning
The village of Horning is just ten minutes away on foot, making it the perfect place to stroll to with your pooch at your side. Horning is a picturesque waterside village situated on the northern bank of the River Bure.
Take the time to view the village from the water aboard a local boat as well as from dry land to really appreciate the pretty waterfront cottages and houses which give it its picture postcard feel.
The village has waterside shops, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms to whet your whistle or satisfy your taste buds, all serving excellent home cooked food.
If you visit during summer you might be lucky enough to happen upon one of the many boat races which take place here or the week-long regatta which is best viewed from a riverside pub.
Known as the capital of the Norfolk Broads and just four miles from the cottage, Wroxham is connected to the town of Hoveton St. John, both of which are split from one another by the River Bure.
Hoveton Riverside Park is an excellent choice for a walk with a view of the river with your dog or do some shopping in Wroxham where you’ll find the independent department store Roys, a family run company which claims to be the world’s largest village store.
Hop on board a miniature steam train in Wroxham at the Bure Valley Railway and head to the market town of Aylsham. Aylsham is a traditional unspoilt market town which is also home to Norfolk’s slow food movement which encourages people to buy locally grown and reared food.
The town’s market place is lined with 18th century houses which reflect on the era in which the town prospered from the cloth trade.
The town’s market takes place on Mondays and Fridays and there are plenty of tea rooms to choose from once you’ve finished your shopping for the day.
Whispering Reeds really is a luxurious holiday choice, from the outdoor seating areas to the hot tub and luxury finishes within the cottage itself.
If you want to spend your holiday simply sitting on the deck and watch the world go by, no one would blame you!
The cottage’s cosy living room, well-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and additional dining area all overlook the river, so you can start and end your day with beautiful views as you enjoy some quality time with your family, friends and four-legged friend.
Happisburgh beach is an excellent choice for days spent digging sandcastles, often with no one else sharing the beach with you or you can take a ride on the Bure Valley Railway and enjoy a steam train journey at a slower pace.
Horning, Hoveton St. John and Aylsham offer plenty of choices for boat rides and riverside pubs.
