Things To Do in Framlingham, Nr Woodbridge
Framlingham is a market town 18 miles northeast of Ipswich and 15 miles from the Suffolk Heritage Coast. It was voted one of the best places to live in 2016 and boasts a weekly market and a town trail that guides visitors around the local points of historic interest.
Framlingham is a pretty place with a handful of shops and a couple of pubs. The town is perhaps best known for its 12th-century castle. There is a lot of the structure still remaining of this once powerful fortress and climbing up the ramparts is one of the highlights of a visit.
Surrounding the castle is The Mere – a wildlife haven where dogs are welcome and birds, mammals and wild plants can be spotted. The town of Woodbridge is picturesque and historical. It sits on the River Debden and is a mixture of urban life and rural tranquillity.
Foodies will love the artisan dishes and fresh seafood served here, and coffee shops are in abundance. Woodbridge Tide Mill is a heritage museum that still has a working flour mill inside. Sutton Hoo, the ancient burial ground, is just on the edge of this town where there are exhibitions and events, as well as natural parkland to wander.
On the coast of Suffolk, Aldeburgh is a seaside town loved by artists, writers and musicians. Boutique shops, art galleries and rustic eating places line the quaint streets. At Snape Maltings, a centre for culture, you can regularly see concerts and opera, and the cafe here serves up great lunches and afternoon teas.
The Red House was once Benjamin Britten’s home, and it is open to visitors who tour the studio where Britten composed his classical music.
To explore the castle at Framlingham and spend time in the quaint town of Woodbridge, Courtyard Cottage is ideally located. You can reach a choice of places within 30 minutes to get a real taste of this pretty part of England.
With up to 2 dogs welcome to stay, and plenty of walks on the doorstep, this is a great holiday home in Suffolk. After a long day out and about enjoying the local area, the living room at this cottage is comfortable and bright, just the place to relax and unwind.
With Aldeburgh close by offering dog-friendly pubs, fish and chips and some of the best eateries around, you might not need to self cater. But if you prefer to cook up some tasty home-made meals, then the kitchen-diner is equipped with all the mod cons you will need.
