Things To Do in Halesworth, Nr Holton

The market town of Halesworth has a thriving art scene and is centred around The Thoroughfare, a pedestrianised street which has buildings dating back to the 16th century.

The town’s railway station is home to the Halesworth and District Museum with exhibits detailing the town’s history from the Bronze Age settlers to the brewing, malting and agriculture that the town was famous for in Victorian times to the present day.

The New Cut Arts Centre is the start of a Maltings Trail which tells the story of the brewing history of the town and it is also home to The Malt Room art gallery, its own small theatre and a concourse area with a café. The concourse is where regular art exhibitions are held, too.

Halesworth is an excellent choice for foodies, with almost thirty coffee shops in the town, as well as pubs, restaurants and a local delicatessen for fine fresh foods.

The weekly outdoor market takes place on Wednesdays on The Thoroughfare which is home to some excellent independent shops, from local butchers to greengrocers, jewellers, craft, Fairtrade and antique shops.

A short drive from Dove Cottage you will find the charming seaside town of Southwold. Southwold has a beautiful dog-friendly beach and a Victorian pier, ideal for a stroll with man’s best friend at any time of the year.

Take a trip across the River Blyth to Walberswick on a traditional local rowing boat, based on the Suffolk punt design, or enjoy a trip down the river’s estuary, taking in the sights and sounds provided by Mother Nature herself.

Southwold Golf Club is the place to head to if you’re a golf fan or for those who like water-based sports, the Southwold Model Yacht Club holds regular events throughout the sailing season.

The Southwold Electric Picture Palace is a fabulous place to catch a film, with just 70 seats. Opened by Michael Palin in 2002, the cinema shows classic films as well as live-broadcast plays.

You can also take a tour of the famous Adnams Brewery in the town and there’s a drink of their finest included in the tour price

Our Thoughts

An excellent choice for a romantic weekend away as a couple or for a family holiday, with your dogs who get their very own welcome pack, too.

Dove Cottage is a charming base from which to explore the Suffolk coastline with its traditional seaside entertainment. Grab some local food or handicrafts in the local shops and take a stroll to the nearest pub with your pooch, just half a mile away.

Relax after a day out with a glass of Adnams in the garden or on cooler evenings make dinner together in the open plan kitchen, put the dishwasher on and forget about the washing up then snuggle up on the comfortable sofas in the living area with the wood burner gently warming the room.
