Things To Do in Laxfield, Nr Halesworth
Perfectly situated for long walks with your canine friend, exploring the local countryside, the village of Laxfield is just ten minutes on foot from the lodges.
The village has its own museum, housed in the town’s Guildhall, a 16th century building. A parish council meeting in 1971 requested attendees bring an object of interest to the community to the meeting.
So many interesting artefacts were brought to the meeting that the seed was planted to open a museum in the village. Of course, it grew and grew and eventually the town’s museum had to be moved to a place of historic interest, the Guildhall, its home today.
Visit the historic Framlingham Castle to see where Mary Tudor was proclaimed Queen of England and to learn about her role as the first female Queen of the country.
This 12th century castle has many a story to tell, from its days entertaining King John in 1213 to the relationship which later soured and led to the subsequent seizure of the castle by King John in 1216.
In Tudor times it was the subject of a succession crisis and its ultimate use as a poorhouse was in accordance with the will of philanthropist, Sir Robert Hitcham who acquired the castle in 1635 and died a year later.
A fascinating insight into the history of England can be seen through the history and displays of this English Heritage castle.
Halesworth is a short drive from Laxfield Lodges, where you will find a fabulous outdoor market on Wednesdays. Held at The Thoroughfare, it is an excellent option for those who want to pick up freshly cut vegetables, fresh meat as well as household goods and clothes.
The Thoroughfare is a hotspot for excellent shopping opportunities with local butchers, antique shops, greengrocers and craft shops. The New Cut Arts Centre has regular concerts and events, from dance to drama and weekly film screenings.
It has a fantastic café alongside its exhibitions or you can select one of the 28 coffee shops serving freshly roasted coffee in the town’s centre.
From romantic weekends away just the two of you, accompanied by your pooch, of course, or family holidays with rest and relaxation in mind, Laxfield Lodges offer a luxury, peaceful setting to rewind, recharge your batteries and spend some time walking your canine friend.
There are plenty of places to visit nearby, from historic Framlingham Castle to the market town of Halesworth, a favourite on Wednesdays when the market takes over the town’s Thoroughfare.
You could also simply opt to stay at the lodge and explore the walks around the local area, or putting your feet up together on the comfy sofas for a film afternoon as a couple or as a family and spend some much-needed quality time together away from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
Laxfield Lodges are an excellent excuse to relax and unwind in true holiday style.
