Things To Do in Hinton
Saxmundham is a small market town not far from the Suffolk coast. There’s a market every Wednesday and a nice selection of shops, cafes and places to grab a drink.
Just 3 miles from Saxmundham is Dunwich, a small seaside village that was once the Anglo Saxon seat of power and an international port.
There is lots of history to discover in this area that dates back to the first century, so look out for the museums and information boards. Dunwich Heath is a dog walker’s dream.
It is picturesque and peaceful, smothered in interesting flora and fauna. It leads to RSPB Minsmere where bird spotters have seen marsh harriers, avocets, bitterns, deer and otters.
Some areas are not dog-friendly, but the public footpaths and the visitor centre permits pooches on a lead.
The Suffolk Coast has a range of wonderful seaside towns to visit. Kessingland Beach is wild, sandy and broad and ideal for playing with the dog.
Southwold is traditional, with colourful beach huts, a lighthouse and a choice of places to have coffee and cake. Walberswick has a shingle beach and is best known for the annual crabbing championship that takes place here – whoever catches the biggest crustacean on the day wins!
Aldeburgh is a trendy destination, with a Martello on the shingle beach and a Moot Hall to discover, it’s a lovely place to spend some time. There are links with the composer Benjamin Britten who lived here, and there are live music festivals and events held at Snape Maltings all year round.
For a holiday in rural Suffolk that is close to the heritage coast, The Studio is ideally located.
Set up like a luxury hotel suite, you have a cosy bedroom-come-living space with exposed beams and a four-poster bed. The kitchen is off to one side – you can simply make a cuppa in there or cook up delicious meals for 2.
And there is a charming spot to sit outside to enjoy a glass of wine alfresco. For days out with the dog, hop in the car and explore the towns and villages close by, such as Southwold, Aldeburgh and Thorpeness.
