Things To Do in Tideswell, Buxton
The village of Tideswell where the cottage is located has more than meets the eye for those looking to see some sights on the cottage’s doorstep. The village has excellent cafés, pubs, restaurants and shops and is home to several festivals throughout the year from the food festival in May to its own Night of the Proms.
The 14th century church of St John the Baptist in the village is known as the Cathedral of the Peak and has carvings and monuments on display. Tideswell Dale, is a local nature reserve to visit or enjoy regular concerts by the local male voiced choir at the church.
Buxton is one of the Peak District’s most popular places to visit. A historic spa town, two of its Victorian spas are still open today for health, wellbeing and relaxation. The award-winning Devonshire Spa is located in the centre of Buxton and the Palace Hotel is a Victorian building dating back to 1868.
If you are a fan of the arts, head to the town for music, opera and books at the annual Buxton International Festival of Opera, Music and Literature or for military fans, the town’s very own military tattoo. Held in the Devonshire Dome in July, it offers the chance to get closer to the bands than any other military tattoo in the country. The Coldstream Guards, the Yorkshire Regiment and Drums and Highland Dancers are amongst those who play at this fantastic event.
