Things To Do in Woolaston, Chepstow
Hidden at the end of a gravel lane next to a steep, unfenced bank running down to a stream. There is no more peaceful a place to escape the stress of the modern world, with a group of good friends, family members and, of course, your faithful friend.
Nearby Woolaston is a charming village on the west bank of the River Severn, with a number of other rivers and streams nearby. Your pooch will love the open countryside, riverside walks and unspoiled woodland in the area.
Woolaston has a pub, tea room and post office, plus a lovely village green to stroll around while you plan your days out. There is also a fishing hire shop, for the necessary gear to fish in the nearby Cone Brook.
To the north and west of Woolaston is the Forest of Dean, with ancient woodlands dating back many hundreds of years, which your canine companion will love snuffling through.
Look out for the native ponies which have protected status here, as well as the deer and other native wildlife. To the north also lies the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), which is perfectly set up for visitors wanting to ramble, cycle or even canoe through.
The AONB is on the English side of the border with Wales, of which the River Wye forms a part. A short drive from Woolaston south west down the A48 takes you across the river and border to the historic town of Chepstow, with its superbly preserved 11th Century castle. Chepstow also has lots of independent shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy on days out.
Park Hill Barn is a lovely one storey cottage, caringly converted from an original stone barn building. Its level access and ensuite facilities make it perfect for two couples, a group of friends, or family with older children, to enjoy a holiday together while maintaining some private space if necessary.
The wood burner in the big, open plan lounge is a great focus for convivial nights in, and the paved patio outside perfect for warm evenings under the open sky. Nearby Woolaston has everything you’d want from a country village, and sits in some superb open countryside.
Your companions and furry friend have miles of quiet riverside to enjoy, by foot or bike, along the many country trails in the area. Enjoy the AONB and Chepstow through the day, and come back to this lovely country cottage in the evenings.
