Things To Do in Arlingham, Gloucestershire
Nestled in the Gloucestershire hamlet of Arlingham, on a working farm in the middle of unspoiled countryside. The River Severn loops around three sides of the farm and the village, giving excellent riverside walks for people and pooch alike.
There are also two specially designated secure dog walking areas at the top of the village. The farm itself has both crops and cattle, so this cottage is a real part of the rural economy. Arlingham has a gastropub right on the river side, and a country inn at the village entrance, perfect for resting tired legs or planning a day out exploring.
To the south east of Arlingham, past the villages of Fretherne and Saul (and another couple of pubs!) is the Gloucester Canal, which takes a less winding route than the Severn, all the way up to the historic cathedral city of Gloucester. Only a half hour drive from the cottage, Gloucester is perfect for a day out, with winding streets, independent shops and plenty of places to eat and drink.
The city also has lots of great walks and parks by the river. Here you’ll also find access to the A40, which takes you west over the Severn towards the Wye valley and the border with Wales and some of the UK’s loveliest scenery.
To the east of Gloucester is the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Here, you and your furry friend will find hundreds of miles of paths and trails through ancient woodland and rolling hills, plus some lovely villages to stop off in, rest and refresh yourselves while taking in the fabulous surroundings.
The Tallet is a perfect slice of Gloucestershire, set in acres of farmland next to the magnificent River Severn. With the living and dining room upstairs, the views all around are magnificent while you’re sitting relaxing or eating, be it breakfast or dinner.
Having the double bedroom downstairs means you can step out onto the patio through the French doors and enjoy the fresh air in the mornings, and listen to the sounds of nature on your doorstep. Head off down towards the river through Arlingham, and pick up one of the many riverside and country paths which your pooch will love exploring.
Head inland to the Gloucester canal, or drive up to the magnificent city itself, with its Gothic cathedral and other historic landmarks. Head west to the border country, or east into the fabulous Cotswolds AONB. Come home at night to a peaceful country cottage.
