Ashby Cottage is part of Ashby House, home to the former lord of the manor, and sits right in the heart of Long Compton. The village dates back to the Domesday Book, and is a thriving local community. Pick up the Nethercote Brook, which flows past the village, and head off for some lovely peaceful riverside walks to keep the dogs enthralled. To the south of the village are the Rollright Stones and Whispering Knights, two Stone Age monuments with a mystical, spooky air about them.
The Cotswolds is an Area of Outstanding National Beauty (AONB), and has countless pup friendly walks and trails, among some of the best scenery in England. There are also tailored adventure activities throughout the AONB, including a paintballing centre just outside Moreton-in-Marsh. To the south east is Blenheim Palace, its huge grounds attached to the National Park, and with a Secret Garden and pup friendly cafe for refreshments among its attractions.
Further south down the A44 is Oxford, with its embarrassment of visitor attractions, plus retail outlets for retail therapy and supermarkets for stocking up. Alternatively, head north to Stratford-upon-Avon, and see Shakespeare’s Birthplace while taking in the excellent riverside parks and canine friendly walks.
Ashby Cottage is an excellent base for enjoying a quiet time away from it all in the English countryside. Enjoy the original stone cottage with its homely feel in the heart of a country village, including a welcoming pub just down the road. Enjoy the rolling countryside all around in the Cotswolds AONB, and take in the ancient historic monuments all around the area.
For adults, kids and furry friends alike, there is so much to see and do in the area. For culture and history, Stratford and Oxford are easily within reach, and there are country manors with gardens as well as sleepy villages to enjoy all across the Cotswolds.
Take advantage of the organised activities or take your time on riverside walks, looking out for picnic areas or the many country inns around. Relax in the evenings in this superb Cotswold cottage.
