Things To Do in Beckingham, Gainsborough
The village of Beckingham dates back to Roman times and is just 35 minutes by car from the cathedral city of Lincoln which has been named one of Britain’s best small cities.
The quaint cobbled streets of Lincoln are lined with independent shops, tea rooms, chocolate and ice cream parlours and vintage clothing boutiques. Test out the strength of your legs on the city’s Steep Hill, named the fourth steepest street in England by the Ordnance Survey.
Visit Lincoln Cathedral to see if you can find the famous Lincoln imp hidden away in the cathedral’s stone work, locate the gargoyles carved into the stone of this Gothic cathedral or to relax on Cathedral Green. You can see one of just four surviving copies of the Magna Carta at Lincoln Cathedral and see a 15th century collection of books in the Medieval and Wren Libraries, located in what has been said to be the most beautiful room in England.
Lincoln has some fantastic walking areas, ideal for a day out with your pooch, from Lincoln Arboretum to Whisby Nature Park which even has dog-friendly tables within its café.
Known all over the world as the Steel City, Sheffield is less than an hour from the house and is still known as a city of innovation today. The smoke stacks of industry are long gone and in their place you’ll find cultural hubs, green spaces and fantastic shopping. For some retail therapy head to the famous Meadowhall which has everything you need for beauty, clothing and fashion under one domed roof.
If theatre is more your cup of tea, Sheffield has three fantastic auditoria, making them the largest theatre complex outside of London.
Sheffield’s Winter Garden is home to over 2,500 plants from around the world and easily accessed from the Millennium Galleries and Millennium Square. This temperate greenhouse on a mass scale is also home to the Bessemer Gallery which houses work from local artists and a popular café for a rest for good food and drinks.
Gardeners Cottage is the ideal spot for a relaxing holiday with your four-legged friend.
The modern décor and fantastic, spacious garden are perfect for pooches who love a good run around to burn off some energy. Relax as a couple on the patio or together in the kitchen/dining room or head to the local pub, a two mile walk away with your dogs in tow.
Explore the local area which is excellent for country walks or head further afield to Leeds for excellent shopping, museums, art galleries and theatres. Enjoy a day in Sheffield for sporting finesse, more art galleries, great cafés and fantastic music venues.
Alternatively, Lincoln offers a city on a smaller scale, albeit with cobbled streets at challenging angles. Visit the city’s cathedral to see the Magna Carta or shop in its fantastic independent shops.
