Things To Do in Cotgrave
Nestling in the grounds of the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club, in 300 acres with two full size golf courses literally on your doorstep. Sitting in open countryside to the north of the Notts village of Cotgrave.
Low lying, flat land all around, with streams and small canals feeding into the River Trent and its reservoirs, just to the north. There’s a dog friendly pub at the crossroads as you enter or leave the Club, where the road heads off to the hamlet of Stragglethorpe. Or you and your furry friends could follow the streams east or west into the fields and farmland all around.
To the north, across the A52, is Holme Pierrepont, which is surrounded by lakes and the Trent. Here you’ll find a national water sports centre, marinas, a rowing course and lots of fishing.
Colwick Marina Country Park and Garden is right in the middle of the huge water based area, and is a great place to spend a morning or afternoon with the dogs. The park sits on islands surrounded by water, and has miles of quiet paths to enjoy the wildlife and the views. There’s also a cafe for when you get tired.
A short drive from the Country Club, the city of Nottingham lies just to the west. Apart from the compact city centre, which houses attractions such as Nottingham Castle and Art Gallery, the city spreads out on either side of the Trent, and is home to lots of country parks and waterside venues.
To the south west of the city, Beeston Marina has some great views and places to stop for a bite to eat. Further into the lakeside is the Attenborough Nature Centre, a dog friendly bird sanctuary and nature park which also serves local, organic food.
Peacock Lodge at the Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club is both a wonderful place to stay, and a superb base to enjoy the local natural and sporting attractions.
For golfers, there’s no better place to enjoy a holiday. For non golfers, there is plenty of fishing to be had in the local streams, reservoirs and River Trent. Of course, dog owners will be spoilt for choice of places to explore with canine company.
Enjoy the local wildlife which lives near the water, and head off down the miles of paths and bridleways. Stop at the dog friendly pubs along the way, including the one on your doorstep. A decent walk to the west takes you to the edges of Nottingham; a short drive and you are right in the city centre. Later on, come home to your own hot tub at night.
