The town has plenty of pubs, shops and restaurants, with supermarket outlets for stocking up on essentials. The owner also has a freezer, which you’re welcome to use while you’re here.
There are lots of very well used and maintained paths and trails passing through and near New Mills, so your party and canine companion will be spoilt for choice of fresh air and exercise, and the views all around are breathtaking. New Mills lies at the confluence of the Rivers Goyt and Sett, and the Peak Forest Canal also winds its way to the south west.
This feat of engineering in these stunning surroundings is a reminder of the area’s industrial importance, as well as its natural beauty. To mark this, the elevated Millennium Walkway crosses the Goyt, and spans 160 metres. The Walkway is a link in the Mid Shires Way, itself a leg of the E2 walking route connecting Nice with Stranraer, and spans the Torrs Gorge.
New Mills is on the Northern main railway line, which takes you to Manchester in under half an hour. By car, the lovely towns and villages of the Peak District are all within a short drive, and great places to stop on a journey through the Peaks.
