Take fido for a walk around the village, maybe guided by the superb Ashover Audio Trail, which describes exactly where you are and what history lies behind it. Follow the River Amber, just west of the village, and let pooch explore the river banks in between the farmers’ fields. Down river is the dramatic Ogston Reservoir, with fabulous views and its own sailing club.
Head west to the Derwent valley, from Cromford through Matlock Bath and Matlock itself. Don’t miss the Heights of Abraham, which has a cable car to take you up to its visitor centre. Well behaved doggies are welcome, and there are terraces, a cafe and restaurant to enjoy the view; you can also go on walking trails, explore the caves and see an exhibition of fossils found nearby. Matlock is a thriving town with lots of pet friendly pubs and cafes, and you can join the Peak Rail steam train, which is the best way to see this beautiful area.
