Things To Do in Matlock
Nestling on a hillside, half a mile outside the Derbyshire spa town of Matlock Bath. Escape the noise, stress and fumes of the big city with a superb break in the Peak District, with a grateful furry friend for company.
Shop and pub 150 yards away, restaurant half a mile. The country walks start from your doorstep, either up the hill or down towards Riber Road, following the brook with its lovely, wooded bankside paths which pooch will no doubt drag you through.
Follow the road to the west, and you’re on the outskirts of Starkholmes, possibly the most beautiful suburb in England. Stop by the dog friendly pub, and plan the day ahead.
By now you’re on the eastern edge of the Heights of Abraham, a fantastic visitor attraction based around the old lead mines of the area, which sits 900 feet above the surrounding Peak landscapes.
From the Heights, you can see Riber Castle, to the north of your cottage and an elegant country manor in acres of grounds. Alternatively, to the west and downwards is the spa town of Matlock Bath, created in the 19th Century for Victorian city dwellers to ease their aches and pains.
Take yourself and your furry friend for a walk by the lovely promenades along the River Derwent, or pop into a dog friendly pub, cafe, eaterie or boutique shop while you’re there.
Just to the west is the edge of the Peak District National Park, and this part contains the superb country estates of Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
Take in the elegance, art collections and panoramic views, and let pooch enjoy the acres of woodland walks and world famous gardens.
The major Derbyshire town of Matlock is a short drive away, with rail and road links to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham, all of which are a very short trip away.
Riber Retreat is exactly what it sounds like; a retreat from modern stress, worry and fumes, with the choice to take your favourite four legged friend with you for company.
Two couples, a family, group of friends or colleagues will love this superb example of Peak District country living, on one of the many rises overlooking a fantastic part of England’s best landscapes.
Take your faithful pooch on a country walk which could lead you anywhere you want, from the National Park over the River Derwent to your west, or down into the valley for some quality time in Matlock Bath, then up to the dizzy Heights of Abrham, either by cable car or slightly more challenging footpath. Back home in Riber, your perfect, peaceful retreat awaits.
