Things To Do in Matlock, Peak District
Sitting in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, on the outskirts of Cromford, with the Peak District National park only a brisk country walk away.
Robins Nest is a converted farm building, fitting in perfectly with its surroundings, and very much part of the working farm it sits in. Your furry friend will love exploring the grounds, shared with another cottage, in this lovely slice of the countryside. Get involved and feed the chickens, before heading off into the nearby village.
Cromford has country pubs, a butchery and deli, and even its own mill pond. Take a walk, cycle or drive up the Via Gellia Road to the edge of the Peak District National Park, just to the north west of the village.
To the east, across the A6 Derby Road, is the River Derwent, which dominates this part of the north midlands. Beautiful wooded valley walks and trails are signposted across the area, and the river cuts some dramatic natural features. Check out the Heights of Abraham, which has a cable car, cavern tours and even a fossil museum.
The river winds through Matlock Bath, Matlock Dale and the town of Matlock itself, any and all of which are worth a trip out in the car. The scenery is stunning, and there are surprising eateries of various types making their way into the area.
For more traditional fare, head off into the National Park and visit the towns and villages within, like Winster and Bakewell. Cromford train station, to the east of the river, takes you to Sheffield in the north, or Derby to the south.
Robins Nest is a lovely place to spend some quiet time with a loved one, with plenty of room for your beloved canine companion. The cottage mixes original, solid stone walls with stylish yet cosy furnishings, so you can really kick back and relax.
The four poster bed, with its views of the surrounding countryside, might make you not want to go far, but the working farm outside and the charming local village will make it worth your while. The Derwent Valley, with its unspoiled nature walks, and the nearby Peak District National Park are full of possibilities for scenic walks and serious de-stressing.
Spend a romantic evening in one of the towns or villages nearby, or head off on the train to the bigger urban centres on your doorstep. Alternatively, spend the evening in the courtyard around the barbecue, saving some for the dog, of course.
