Things To Do in Henlle, Nr Oswestry

In the north of Shropshire and close to the Welsh border, Oswestry and the surrounding area has seen a turbulent past.

The town dates back to 1190 and boasts narrow lanes, timber-framed buildings, a market and a wide range of shops. The old school was founded in 1407 and now serves as a heritage centre and tourist information hub.

Oswestry Iron Age hill fort is a great place to wander with the dog. This ancient site has pathways making it easier to climb to the top of the mound and look across the county.

The British Ironworks Centre has a sculpture park that is often described as a hidden gem. Doggies are welcome to enjoy the art outside where you can find dragons, piglets and bulls created by artists and blacksmiths. A gorilla sculptured using 40,000 spoons and an angel created from knives are 2 of the highlights.

Erddig is a National Trust property near Wrexham that houses fascination collections such as antique Christmas cards, mirrors and toys. Dogs are allowed in the parkland – a pretty landscape in any season. At nearby Chirk Castle, there is another 480 acres of parkland to explore with the pooch from March to October.
