Ludlow Castle is nearly a thousand years old and is worth a visit. It is open all year round and there is always something on, so check out its events’ calendar online to get the latest news. It plays host to annual events and festivals and, of course, art and antique fairs.

If you want to take a stroll with your pooches along the riverside there is the town’s Millennium Green is bankside and has a variety of alfresco restaurants, many being dog-friendly.

On Thursdays and on some Sundays of the month there is an antiques and collectables market too.

Beyond the town’s boundaries are some lovely walking trails. On the steep wooded slopes rising up from the River Teme, there is a wide expanse of common with breath taking views of the Clee Hills.

The Breadwalk, just past the Charlton Arms is worth a visit too with its rocky cliffs, cascading waterfall and lush greenery.
