Things To Do in Oakamoor , Staffordshire

Hidden in woodland in the heart of the Staffordshire moorlands, with Alton Towers on the doorstep and the Peak District National Park a short drive away.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a lodges break on the Ramshorn Estate. Take one or two four legged friends and explore the countryside, starting with your very own bit of woodland.

Let pooch sniff out the local wildlife, as you head off into the trees in the morning. Follow Ramshorn Road to the west, and stop off at the dog friendly pub in the village of Cotton. From here, you can pick up the Cotton Brook, which heads off to the west and south towards Cotton Dell, a superb local nature reserve.

This is just outside Oakamoor, where the Brook joins with the River Churnet. From here, if you and your furry friends are feeling energetic, you can pick up the superb footpath which hugs the Churnet Valley down to Denstone.

Just to the south of Ramshorn is Alton Towers Theme Park. There is a huge range of attractions here, which are aimed at people of many generations and tastes.

Of course, the park is famous for its ground breaking rides, like Oblivion, The Smiler and Spinball Whizzer. However, the huge 3.7 square km site also has some lovely natural landscapes and water features which your four legged friend will love.

A short drive to the north east up the A52 is the Peak District National Park, which meets the road at Calton Moor on the Park’s southern edge.

This is unspoiled moorland, which gives a taste of the superb views and landscapes which lie ahead. It’s worth planning a day out on the Peaks, as there is so much to do, whether you like walking, cycling, horse riding or some of the more extreme activities on offer.

There are lovely villages all across the Peaks, and the spa town of Buxton, right in the middle, is well worth a visit.

Our Thoughts

Ramshorn Estate Woodland Lodges are special holiday homes with something to offer people of all ages, and groups of various sizes and types.

For a country holiday, these lodges can’t be beat, with a sloping roof timber home to enjoy, whether inside or out. From the wood burners indoors to the hot tub on the patio, there’s luxury wherever you look. The countryside is also very special, with the moorland still something of a hidden gem.

Enjoy the riverside walks with your canine companions, following the Churnet down one of the most scenic valleys in England.

Enjoy Alton Towers, which has something for everyone, or head into the Peak District and really get away from it all. A superb choice of holiday lodges, whoever you go with.
