Once you have leashed up your pooches (sheep roam free in the area), you can take them on a walk along a path that runs directly through the property that leads to many of the nature trails in the area. The cottage is on the south western border of the Peak District which means Dovedale and the Manifold Valley are within reach.
These stunning areas are criss-crossed with great walks and hikes, Manifold Cycle Track being a particular draw for the more fast paced adventurer. If you didn’t bring your mountain bikes with you, cycle hire is available on the track.
Once you have returned from a hard day’s hiking and biking, you could take a relaxing soak in your private hot tub or you could make your way to the picturesque village of Onecote, just over a mile away, for some hearty pub grub and well earned refreshment.
If you are in the mood for some home cooking in the kitted out kitchen, the town of Leek is a mere four miles away where you can stock up on groceries at one of the supermarkets.
Leek also hosts a market for some speciality foods and beverages, as well as a number of restaurants, cafes and real ale pubs. If you are looking for some history and culture, the towns of Ashbourne and Buxton are within a half an hour’s drive from Rue Hayes Farm Cottage.
A 45 minute drive will get you to Matlock and Matlock Baths where you can take the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham. Chatsworth House, home to the Duke of Devonshire, can be reached in a similar time.
