Things To Do in Slindon
Nestling on a working farm near the tiny hamlet of Slindon in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside. Escape the noise and stress of the big city in this superb converted cart shed, with a big lawned garden sitting next to open fields.
Take a walk out of the front gate onto country lanes, and pick up one of the 130 public footpaths which criss cross the local area.
Keep an eye out for the Brockton Brook or Chatcull Brook which flow nearby, and let your canine companions sniff out the wildlife on the river banks. There’s a large fishery nearby, as fishing is a very popular sport in these parts.
A short drive south is Eccleshall, the largest village in the area. Here you’ll find a country pub and two restaurants, nestled round an old fashioned English village crossroads. Eccleshall is home to an award winning butcher, and there is also a farmers’ market on the fourth weekend of the months. To the east of the village is the Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre, which is a sanctuary for more than 30 rare and exotic animals and birds of prey.
Further afield, for nature lovers in your group there’s the Trentham Estate, a huge open air complex on the other side of the M6 before you get to Stoke-on-Trent. Trentham covers 725 acres, and has a Monkey forest – complete with free roaming Barbary macaques – and a rope course for a memorable day out. There are also some beautiful gardens on the estate, which surrounds Trentham Lake.
Other attractions in the area include the National Trust property at Shugborough Hall, which lies at the northern end of Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), a short drive to the southeast of Eccleshall. A similar drive to the northeast lies the Peak District National Park.
The Cartshed is a superb farm building conversion, perfect for kicking back and relaxing with lots of friends. The French and bi-fold doors offer superb views across the countryside, not to mention making the most of the sunlight.
You’ll probably want to spend as much time as possible indoors, but there’s lots to do in the surrounding area, which is some of the most rural in England.
Eccleshall is a characterful, thriving large village, great for shopping and refreshments at either end of the day. Further afield, your furry friends will love the waterways and paths which are everywhere in this part of Staffordshire.
Spend some time in local nature reserves, country estates and exciting visitor attractions, and come home to your own quiet haven at night.
