Things To Do in Rowsley
The lodge is part of a working smallholding in the Derbyshire hills, near the village of Rowsley, so there is plenty of room and lots of sights and smells for the dog to get excited about, and some real country air for walks in any direction. Head to Rowsley, about five miles away, and has some excellent shops for essentials and a restaurant and pub to relax or up your energy levels for a visit to the Peak District National Park. Try the Rowsley Bar Hill Climb if you’re fit enough, or pick up the Monsal Trail or Derwent Valley cycleway, just a couple of the many paths and trails which criss-cross the length and breadth of the Peaks.
Head north of Rowsley to Chatsworth House, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, which sits in 1,000 acres of parkland, is home to a priceless art collection and has dog-friendly attractions like the working farmyard and an adventure playground for the kids. Drive to Bakewell, known as the capital of the Peaks, and enjoy some of its famous pudding, as well as indulging in some shopping for local delicacies and fine homemade foods.
Spend a day in Matlock Bath, a spa town on the Derwent with elegant riverside walks, and don’t miss the Heights of Abraham, a limestone gorge and country park which is best enjoyed from its cable car ride. Kids will love the rides at Gulliver’s Kingdom, while world-famous Alton Towers is only a half-hour drive to the west.
This holiday home makes for an exceptional getaway, a lovely lodge on a working farm next to the Peak District National Park. People of all ages, plus your faithful friend, have lots to enjoy and keep them entertained and a splendidly laid out home from which to do it. From an open-air breakfast on your own decking, try a healthy walk into Rowsley, and enjoy the local hospitality while you plan your day.
History and culture lovers will want to head straight for Chatsworth, a centuries-old palace with a world-famous art collection, while the more outdoors types (like the dog) will appreciate the acres of gardens and working farm. The National Park is great for those who enjoy the natural beauty and just want to admire the views and those who wish to participate in some of the physical challenges like the Rowsley Bar Hill Climb. The Park has dozens of managed activities like white water rafting and tree walks for those who like a challenge.
More man-made attractions like Matlock Bath, Gulliver’s World and even Alton Towers are all there to enjoy, so you can guarantee everyone will come home at night tired out and very happy. With lots more to look forward to, a peaceful night’s sleep is guaranteed.
