Find out everything you need about Millmore Cabin in Killin, Perthshire and whether this holiday rental is right for you.
This wonderful log cabin lies within its own private grounds in the very heart of Scotland, and is perfect for a small family or group of friends to leave the stress and noise of the modern world far behind.
Sitting on the River Dochart – near the famous Falls – and overshadowed by the local mountains, this truly unique setting can be enjoyed outside on a raised decking patio under big Scottish skies.
Visit the Falls of Dochart, Loch Tay and the Trossachs National Park, check out the rare local wildlife and stock up on genuine highland malt whiskey to take home as a reminder.
All on the ground floor, sleeping four in two double bedrooms under the sloping log roof, bathroom with bath, shower over and wc, lounge with comfy sofa and two armchairs around flat screen tv and log burner, separate fully electric kitchen, big porch to hand wet coats and stand or boots.
Dining suite for four in the dining room, plus another outdoor set to enjoy alfresco meals on the raised decking. Floor to ceiling sliding glass doors with views onto private lawn leading down to river Dochart.
Off road parking for two or three cars, a long front garden with no access for passers by, one step up to the decking area and level access throughout from there in.
The cabin sits in its own grounds by the River Lochart, so the dogs can run down the long garden and explore the water any time, as can your human guests. The Falls of Lochart have featured in many movies and tv series, and are literally right on your doorstep, which is a great start to any day. Take a walk into the village of Killin, have some fish and chips or pop into one of the many dog friendly eateries around the main street. Don’t miss the Dochart Viaduct, a one track, five arch disused stone train line which crosses the river.
Across the bridge, visit Kinnell Stone Circle, a hint of the depth of history in this part of Scotland. Finlarig Castle – an old Clan Campbell fortress – lies to the north, and many generations of Clan McNabb are buried at Inchbuie, just over the viaduct. A short drive or healthy walk in almost any direction will take you to one or more historic sites, including the National Trust for Scotland’s Moirlanich Longhouse on nearby Glen Lochay.
The cabin sits on the edge of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, which offers unrivalled scenery and challenges for walkers, hikers, hill climbers, horse riders, canoeists, white water rafters and followers of many other outdoor activities. Enjoy the well established communities of heron, otter, pine marten, red squirrel, and woodpecker living by the area’s lochs. For mountain lovers, Ben Lawers overlooks the lodge, while Ben More and Stobinian are a short drive away.
Both the cabin itself and its surroundings are perfect for a true escape from normal everyday life, for a group of almost any age and one or two well behaved dogs. The naturally lit, sloping roofed accommodation with its genuine (yet modern) log cabin feel will make you want to stay at home; which you might be inclined to do if the Scottish weather proves too much. For the vast majority of the time, you’ll want to stride down the lawned garden to the river, down to the Falls of Dochart and into the lovely village of Killin.
Stock up on supplies, including fine local produce, and head off into the nearby glens for some superb sightseeing, healthy walks or rides. Explore the huge expanse of the Trossachs national park, which leads all the way to Clydeside and Glasgow, or eastwards towards Perth. This really is the most central location in Scotland, with the Highlands, historic towns and cities, plus metropolitan life all a reasonable drive away.
Whatever you get up to through the day, in the evenings you have your very own country cabin, complete with every mod con, to come home to. With easy access throughout, a choice of indoor and outdoor dining, and no neighbours to worry about, this cabin is a truly excellent getaway.
