Things To Do in Milton on Stour

The holiday site has four fishing lakes, while its 15-acre site includes woodland and fields for your inquisitive canine pal to explore. A healthy walk takes you to Milton on Stour, an unspoilt Dorset village with a beautiful, Grade II listed parish church. Heading south on foot, by bike or car, you find the settlements to the north of Gillingham, where you can stock up on whatever you need for your holiday, as well as enjoying a well-earned rest in the dog-friendly pub and eateries.

This part of North Dorset has borders with Somerset and Wiltshire, and nature lovers will enjoy Cranborne Chase AONB to the east and north. There are hundreds of miles of paths to walk and cycle in 380 square miles of beautiful countryside. Look out for the fallow deer, which live all across the Chase, and stay up at night with the stargazers to enjoy the International Dark Sky Reserve. To the northwest of the AONB is Longleat, a famous safari park with a stately home and a fiendish hedge maze. Young, old and curious canines will love it.

The historic cathedral cities of Salisbury and Wells are a half-hour drive away, while the Jurassic Coast lies on the English Channel to the south. Don’t miss Durdle Door, and keep a lookout for the fossils in the cliff faces.

Last Word

Whatever age or ability, this holiday lodge offers a unique getaway in superb countryside, with access to a whole host of activities. Without leaving the site, you can go fishing on one of the four lakes or just take a walk in the woods with the dog.

North Dorset will tempt everybody out, however, and the lovely local village of Milton on Stour is just the start of the great places to visit. With the Stour dominating the area, there are lots of riverside paths and woods to discover, and a walk or drive north into Cranborne Chase is the perfect place to enjoy nature at its best. Longleat has plenty to please wildlife lovers, and the dog especially will be intrigued by the animals within sniffing distance.

For a coastal experience like no other, the Jurassic Coast is a must, with miles of clifftop and beach walks, plus some lovely Dorset towns and villages on the way to help keep energy levels up. However you choose to enjoy your day, you have a comfy, modern hi-tech cabin to come home to at night.
