Things To Do in Amble, Nr Newcastle
Sitting on a quiet street near the harbour in the Northumbrian seaside town of Amble, which is home to working fishing boats as well as lots of pleasure craft. Fish and chips, plus award winning ice cream, are just two of the delights you and your canine companion can look forward to, as well as dog friendly pubs and cafes to enjoy.
Beach and cliff top walks are just on your doorstep, and the harbour has a couple of extremely long piers heading out into the North Sea. Over the Coquet estuary is a superb headland which is the south end of the Northumberland Heritage Coast
Just up river from Amble is the historic village of Warkworth, with its medieval castle perched on the hill. This is a great place to start or end a walk up the Coquet, which meanders westwards and has fabulous riverside paths and woodland to follow. Stick to the coast and you’ll find Alnmouth a couple of miles away, with views you won’t want to miss. Inland, up the River Aln, is the town of Alnwick, with its many dog friendly visitor attractions, including Alnwick Castle, home of the Duke of Northumberland, as well as host to the mythical Hogwarts School.
Head further up the Heritage Coast, and you’ll find Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh Castles, and Holy Island, which you’ll only be able to access by a causeway. Soak in the two thousand years of history which has left its mark on the area. The entire coast is packed with sights and smells to delight you furry friend, and you’ll find hospitality wherever you stop off. Craster (with its kippers), Seahouses (award winning fish and chips) and Beadnell are extremely popular, for food, drink, superb views and lots of dog friendly treats on your days out by the sea.
